Our metal furniture and accessories are completely refinished inside and out. Every piece is carefully evaluated for the best possible outcome. This is essential in preserving the integrity, quality, and appearance that has distinguished Twenty Gauge for nearly a decade. The following processes are necessary to continue our leadership in the industry.

Sandblasting:

Our pieces are thoroughly sandblasted. This is the only way to get into the hard to reach corners and crevasses and fully remove any amount of paint or rust that might be forming. To avoid tarnishing the metal, a media is used that is gentle, yet strong enough to obtain a smooth, rust and debris free surface, ensuring an even and thorough coating.


Sanding:

Twenty Gauge is famous for an even and lustrous finish. This is achieved by numerous sanding steps. We use several grades of sand paper and sand the pieces repeatedly with various sanding machinery. We then use mild abrasives and continue to work on the pieces by hand. The crew at Twenty Gauge works those surfaces many times! This extra care makes a noticeable difference in the look and is necessary for the longevity of the product. The pieces are literally taken down to a second layer of steel that has never been exposed to rust. This is what makes a Twenty Gauge piece unique.


Coating:

All of our pieces are thoroughly powder coated. This is essential for two reasons. The powder coating process includes baking the piece at over 400 degrees Celsius. If any amount of moisture from the air was to contaminate the metal, it is burned off and will evaporate during this step. This is the best and only way to avoid any flash rust or even slower developing rust that might occur if the piece was wet painted and the moisture trapped under the coat of paint. The second reason is that no other coating product is as equally long-lasting and resilient.


What Is Powder Coating?

Powder coating is an advanced method of applying a decorative and protective finish to a wide range of materials and products that are used by both industries and consumers. The powder used for the process is a mixture of finely ground particles of pigment and resin, which is sprayed onto a surface to be coated. The charged powder particles adhere to the electrically grounded surfaces until heated and fused into a smooth coating in a curing oven. The result is a uniform, durable, high-quality, and attractive finish. Powder coating is the fastest growing finishing technology in North America, representing over 10% of all industrial finishing applications.


Powdercoating is Environmentally Sound

Powder coating has minimal impact on the environment. While liquid finishes contain solvents which have pollutants known as volatile organic compounds (VOC), powder coating contains no solvents and releases a negligible amount (if any) of VOC into the atmosphere. Thus, the need for finishers to buy costly pollution control equipment is obsolete. In addition, most powder coating overspray that does not adhere to the part can be retrieved and reused, virtually eliminating the waste commonly found in liquid finishing processes. Powder coating is the most resilient commercial process available to man. No other finish comes close or equals in strength and durability. All other processes, ie: electrostatic painting or even automotive paint, fall short of the quality provided by powder coating.


Paint is Always Inferior to Powder.


Powder coating gives consumers, businesses, and industry one of the most economical, longest-lasting, and most color-durable quality finishes available. Powder coated surfaces are more resistant to chipping, scratching, fading, and wearing than other finishes, and colors stay bright and vibrant longer. This is why powder coating is used in all high traffic applications.
